We met at Saarland University in 2010 and have been together ever since! We share many of the same hobbies and we’ve been lucky enough to be able to experience lots of Western Europe and Canada together. On a trip to Porto (Portugal) in October 2017, Dave finally proposed. Steff said “yes” immediately which was pretty awesome. We’d like to share a few photos from that perfect day and some of our adventures over the years.
Maid of Honour – Kirstin “Kiki” Grunenberg
Kiki lives with her husband Matthias on an equestrian farm near Frankenthal, Germany. She is Steffi’s oldest friend from University and after spending some time together in Spain, they shared an apartment in Saarbrücken for almost two years.
With her great hospitality she was also willing to share the apartment with Dave when he was in danger of becoming a homeless person. This fact makes her a very special person for him too. Kiki has a great personality and is a lot of fun, so you can start looking forward to meeting her!
Best Man – Michael Jost
Dave met Michael during his time at the University of Alberta in 2008 and their friendship is a major reason that Dave had the confidence to make the big move to Germany. Michael now lives with his wife Esther and their daughter Amélie in Darmstadt, Germany.
As a small example of Michael’s generosity and selflessness, he treated us to a Bundesliga football game “auf Schalke” in Gelsenkirchen in 2012. He’s a huge fan of the arch-rival BVB (Dortmund) team so this is a big deal. It’s like an Oiler fan taking someone to a Flames game in Calgary just to be able to share the live hockey experience with them.
